Assignment 1
Portfolio
This assignment covers the following Grading Criteria
4 Communication through Art & design (ALL)
6: Application, Exploration and Realisation in Art & Design (All)
10: Personal & Professional Development in Art & Design (ALL)
[See Assessment Criteria section for details]
The purpose of this assignment is to:
Unit 4: This unit aims to develop the breadth and depth of learners’ knowledge, and understanding of and skills in communication through art and design. Learners will achieve this by studying how practitioners use primarily visual imagery to communicate ideas, messages and meaning, and then applying findings to their own ideas.

Unit 6: In this unit learners will develop and extend their specialist subject understanding and skills, realising their creative potential through personal research, experimentation and communication of ideas using specialist art and design media.

Unit 10: This unit aims to develop learners’ skills and knowledge in their personal and professional development in art and design. Practitioners in this field need to present their work to a range of audiences such as team members, clients, potential employers and interview panels. They will set personal goals and compile a professional portfolio to support their progression.

Scenario:
In the second year of your programme you will be considering your next steps. Some of you will be looking to progress onto a university course, some will be seeking employment, some will be looking to develop a business.

Showcasing your work is crucial for this development. For instance, if you are making an UCAS application you will be probably be called for interview. You will need to present your work and the portfolio assignment is geared towards creating a portfolio geared towards you individual needs.

If you have a particular specialist interest e.g. fashion, you will be given the opportunity to develop your specialist interest.

For this assignment you will be asked to think about what sort of portfolio you will need to develop, what sort of work you need to produce to include in the portfolio, and also think about how and when you will present your work.
The Brief:
You are expected to produce a portfolio of your work to help you progress to the next stage of your development.
In order to do this you will need to focus on your individual career plan and think about the type of portfolio you will need to produce.

You will need to include work already produced in the portfolio, but you will also have the opportunity to specialize and will be expected to create a body of new work to showcase your talents to an audience.
