A taste of Digbeth assignment images

Old historical Digbeth meets new modern Digbeth, Birmingham

This image was selected became of texture and the different shades and tones of grays.  The sparking of  the white dashes due to the sunlight reflecting on the rain.  Even though the image has only tones it can make one think of the texture and tones and be used in many ways e.g. a wake-up fresh look on a wet day, someone running and dashes on the path or it can linked with fashion, fabric patter prints etc.

This is an autumn and winter picture taken while walking, the ground was wet, windy and raining slightly. There is enough sunlight on the ground which brings the image to live on a wet day.
The silver lines  are eyes catcing and the eyes are drawn to the lines first.
The ground is clean only because the rain has cleaned it and the dirty rain water has gone down the drain.

On the upper left side the drain can be seen, where the rainwater drained away leaving a clean pavement behind.

This image show’s a great deal

A wet clear day
Everyone is carrying a umbrella
Arrow showing turn left
People are walking in one direction
Driving speed 20 miles per hour
All the vehicles are moving the same direction
Image show this is a multicultural city
There is a colorfulness poster well presented
Showing -little money, little sleep which can mean, take out a loan, poverty, less time for fun and more time is spent on work and daily chorus.

Busy life in the city of Digbeth.
Mainly this image shows a wet but a nice clear busy day, everyone is on the go, going somewhere or working.  The wind is not blowing and its mild Autumn peaceful day.  From the image it can be seen clearly that Birmingham is a multicultural city.  This above is image is the upper part of Digbeth near Selfridges

Objective
 Dark, depressing cold colours
cat had a sad face
Flames coming out of his one side of cheek and eye
Only had one eye
Cables in his side of the brain and hat
Having a electrical brain simulator
Words coming out of his mouth, a web address WWW.HOAKSER.COM
Finger pointing at his face
Physically powerful face of man
Well dressed, even has a hat and a pet in his hand
Painting on a brick wall
Advisement

Subjective
·        Looks as if he is having an electrical treatment to forget what has happened in his life
·        Words coming out of his mouth, a web address WWW.HOAKSER.COM
·        Finger pointing at his face telling us to look at the piture or, you do not want to be like him.
·        Strong and well nourished face of a man, but sad, even the cat has a sad face
·        Eye catching puzzled image, one wonders why this graffiti
·        Is it related to war-time thoughts of the person who did the graffiti
·        This graffiti was present on the old dark worn out arch wall of digbeth
·        The web address is evidence that it can’t be an very old graffiti
·        can it be a war time memory image?

It’s a strange graffiti image, maybe it’s been there for years, but there is a web address.   It's eye catching because it’s a one off image and makes one wonder what was going through the person’s mind when this graffiti /image was completed.

Did the person suffer some sort of abuse or knew of someone who had?
Is it just an image for the viewer to think about?
What was the painter’s thought at the time?
why is it so cold?

Objective
bridge is strong and solid
shows the industrial side of digbeth
lots of cars and vans
clear day

subjective
cars and vans on both side of the road
very busy area
can't see any people, this can be due to people are in side the building or driving
the cars are modern, expense and clean
shows the cars belong to working and middle class.

This image shows the framing rule of photographic, framing makes a boring image more interesting and divides the image in two section.  If the this same image was taken without the bridge it would be less interested and just a straight road with cars etc.   So it is the bright which act as the framing, it show's the railway bridge is an old building and it is still in use today.  the green van parked thee is from the CHERRYWOOD compony, development and building contractor.

This above image is of the lower end of the industrial Digbeth section and the upper section of Digbeth is where Selvedges is.

I personal likeD this above image because the bright is clean, no graffiti present, no litter on the roads or pavements, the road has no bumps, holes etc and there is a lamppost on either side of the bridge.  I also liked the triangles of the top section of the buildings on the right. There is more brick work and less glass on old buildings whereas the modern buildings now-a days have more glass and less brick work and a good example is the Digbeth coach station.

this above image is an old building that was build between 1837-1902, the date is on the top of the building, just above the two windows, the very top there is a date  and above the date they are thee images build in the brick layer of sailing ships.  Which can be seen better in the photo below.  There is also a name in the building saying
AVON-SHIRE WORK.
It is a very large building, four storage and has attics too with the beautiful red bricks which give it that beautiful look with the arc windows.

The whole building from start to the end is one large building and i tried to get the whole building in,  which is known as the custard factory.

The building still, is known as the custard factory and the rooms are rented to the public for business or for meetings etc.  The rooms are also rented as shop which sell vintage cloths, furniture and musical items plus lots more.

after doing some research i learned it was called Devonshire Works of Alfred bird & Sons.  it was build in 1902
this Devonshire House building is graded 2nd listed building.

Graffiti
its is colourful
stronge bold colours used
orange is a happy colour yet the face of the lady is not so

the face
vicious
grudge
spiteful
eyes looking up and at someone

 Why is it there?
Is it there to hide the walls that are old and worn out?
Is it there as an advertisement of some sort?
Is the graffiti there so the paintwork is preserving the brick wall from getting any worse than it is already?
so they dont have to repair the brick wall and it is easy to paint over a damage wall and at the same time if there was an advertisment they are getting paid, the owners.
Making the walls look more colourful?
Not everyone likes graffiti but doing this work it has made me, look much closer at the images and makes one wonder what the person was thinking at the time that image was taken.

Porsche Cayman

This above image of Porsche Cayman was taken in the car park at the custards factory which can easily have the value of round £25,495.  From this it can be seen that people from higher class background come here either for business.  It may be seen as a rundown place but looking at the car in the private car park shows may not be so.

First image of Digbeth, show's the whole building of the front entrance, which i think is a good picture well in focuse.

The second image is a more close up and more of the inside of the area can be seen, plus people standing near by.

The 3rd image is even a more close -up showing there is a WHSMITH book shop inside and lots more plus national express sign is on either side of the glass windows.

The modern digbeth coach station was re-building and opened in 2009 which adds the modern touches to the old digbeth industrial site, but it also adds the chaos traffic and makes it more busy area in digbeth.

I personal think at this stage the 3 image are well in focus but as my work progresses i may or may not say the same, however there is always space for improvement and time is the problem.

the first image of the Old crown, it show the whole buliging of the Old crown and the also the side view and the two newly build builing.

this image shows slightly more of the newly build builing then the above image.  however this image shows no cars presnet as it was diffeculd to get and image without cars as this area is a busy due to the traffic lights.

this image shows the full view of the whole builing of the old crown.

The Old Crown is located on the corner of Digbeth High Street and Heath Mill Lane and is close to the Custard Factory.  The oldest part of the building was built in 1368 and is one of the oldest existing pubs in Birmingham and gives Digbeth the beautyfull  oldest features.
The building still has its black and white timber frame work but the two side building are newly build and has brick work as well as the timber frame work

The Old Crown also has 10 traditional rooms which are rented out as Bed & Breakfast at reasonable rates.

a more close up of the above image, only the f numbers and lense was changes.

image showing the opening hours and the phne number if one wants to make a booking.

This image shows the original door and well preserved but the door is not in use.

The building is 71 feet 4 inches wide and 20 feet 2 inches deep on the ground floor. On the first floor, which overhangs the front, it is 21 feet 9 inches deep. When built, the original building had a central hall with a length of 40 feet and a width of 20 feet. Below this were a number of arched cellars. On the upper floor were just four rooms. The building had a courtyard to its rear.  It was 26 feet deep and surrounded by large stones. The well was excavated and deepened to produce a total depth of 38 feet. The new section of the well was lined with square bricks. At the top, it was two feet, seven inches at its narrowest diameter and two feet, nine inches at its widest diameter. It widened to around four feet at the bottom. The well was cleaned in 1863 and Smith added an iron gate to the top of it to preserve it whilst keeping it accessible.

this image show's the door with the date 1368
this is a better image from my view becase the windows on either side of the door equally, thats 3and half.

this image shows the menue and stating that it is the olderst pub / Inn and they are proude of it

History
It is believed that the building was constructed between 1450 and 1500 with some evidence dating to 1492 (the same year the Saracen's Head in nearby Kings Norton was completed).
It is thought to have been originally built as the Guildhall and School of St. John, Deritend. Heath Mill Lane, which runs alongside the building, is first mentioned in a deed dated 1589 under the name "Heathe Myll Lane". Heated skirmishes were fought around the building when Prince Rupert's forces raided Birmingham during the English Civil War. The building was converted into two houses in 1684 and then converted into three houses in 1693. It remained three houses until the 19th century.

the old crown used to be the INN during the Victorian times and the above image is a drawing of the old crown.

TAKING IMAGES USING THE 3RD RULE AND FRAMING

                                                                                                                                                               the above is using the

the bird is the hot spot and the point of the mouth the tail and the feet, it shows lines in the horizon and also shapes, oval shape of the bird and the grass the duck is standing on which is getting wider and the lines are straight

Framing

Is when a subject is framed inside a border so the subject looks interesting and so does the background, therefore adds interest to the photo by drawing your eyes to the subject.

 Framing: a photography technique

In the above image the sailing boat has been framed behind the trees and land so it not only looks interesting but it is eye catching and calming to the eyes and the tress and the land only have shadows and no colours but the colurs can be seen of the sea and the boat. therefore there is a good contrast between the two.

this below is for me
