rain drops, abstracts of objects
My photography
work is based on non-fiction abstracts on raindrops that settles on objects and catch a reflection of the items like plants, handles, fruit etc. I tried to take photographs of the raindrops and their reflections, as well as the shapes,
patterns from different angles that could be seen once the raindrops was falling and had settled on the objects for example a spider web, apple etc.
I started of with some research and went from there. My first picture is of a spider web, were the rain drops had settled and pictures of a spider web was taken at different angles. From there I went on to an apple, catching the raindrops falling on to it from a height
and near and close-up as the raindrop fell on to it and dispersing on the apple's skin as the raindrop touched it, which were taken outdoor in the morning in natural day light. From there keeping the same theme I went on to raindrops that were falling into a bowl were the rain water was already present in it about a inch or so.
Keeping the same theme water and raindrops, I moved on to raindrops settled on handles, bars, and the little bubble of oxygen that is left behind once the raindrops have burst.

Keeping the same theme water and raindrops, I moved on to raindrops settled on handles, bars, and the little bubble of oxygen that is left behind once the raindrops have burst.
After that moved on to the
raindrops that settled on worn out tree truck fiber and plants to capture the raindrops
forming, building and the raindrop falling.
From here, I went on to a water fountain to captured the shooting water fall and the reflections of the water which gave captured the day light and gave a reflection of the rainbow colours.
This was followed by washing-up
liquid and water, (still keeping the same theme), hot was poured on to the washing-up and lots drop lets were formed ( the lather) which captured the rainbow colours and the reflection
of the windows.
My next step led me to investigate an eye
ball reflection because the eye ball is like a round rain drop and it’s mainly consists water and salts similar to rain water consists.
Subsequently I went on to car trails, using the same method created some artistic work, which is eye catching, powerful and different. From there went on to eye to clay pot reflection similar images know as the EAST ISLAND.
Lastly I did some pictures of orange salt that is used for melting snow.

This image is of a spider web where the raindrops had settled on the web and one can see a beautiful pattern of the spider web like snow drops. The background is blurred due to the close up and the micro-lens used.
I have used a set of 3 images because I wanted the main image which is the centre piece to stand out and sections of middle one on either side as a close up of middle picture plus the side pictures have a stronger and sharper contrast colour.
The left images shows part of the spider web which more greener as its part of the green side and as the contrast was increased so did the colour became very strong. From the picture one can see the physically powerful strength of the web.
PHOTOSHOP - Cropping was carried out in Photoshop to improve the composition of the pictures plus also re-sized so the images could be put into a group set of 3. The images were sharpened to make the colour stronger, the two side images which made the green side image raindrops to reddish and some rain droplets blueish, this made the image looked like sparking lights.

My second image is of an apple with rain drops falling on it. It shows the reflection of the apple in the raindrop of the apple below the raindrop just before the raindrop falls on the apple below and the drop disappears into water the shot was taken. This image is taken in a split of a second using a micro-lens and a tripod.
The main subject in this image is the reflection of the apple in the raindrop.

3rd image is of a raindrops falling into a bowl with rain water already collected in it and catching the drops once fallen into the water and bunching up in a split second, which is the main subject of the image. the opposite images are of the rain drops falling. I felt I wanted my photo in sets of 3.
Used a micro-lens.

4th image above is of the raindrops that have settled on a stainless handle bar. It shows different shapes and size of the raindrops that has settled on the stainless steel handle bar. Beautiful colour tones of silver, bluish and strong like ice can be seen through the edges as well the reflection of the steel bar and the depth of the raindrops.
The main subject is the raindrops.

this image is linked to the above image 4th, it shows the bar from the distance and at different angles and can be seen clearly it is a bar and out doors.
This 4th image shows raindrops settling on a old plate which is outdoor on the ground some very small bubbles left on the raindrops have fallen and burst. The photos were taken at different angles and put into a frame of set of 3 of different section of the image.

5th image shows a raindrop collecting on a worn out tree trunk fiber and once the raindrop was too heavy for the fiber to hold the rain drop, it fall. The 3 above image show the 3 different stages of the raindrop
1 - rain water building a drop
2 - full size of the raindrop
3 - falling of the raindrop of the tree trunk
Main subject is the raindrop forming, 2. then into full size and then 3.catching the falling raindrop in a split of a second.
Cropping was carried out in Photoshop to improve the composition of the pictures plus also resized so the images could be put into a group of 3.

this image is part of the pack of raindrops falling
these above pictures show raindrops falling creating different shapes patterns once their bounce into the water. The 4th image was a good picture but i had cropped it and lost part of the circle which the weight of the water had created, which was a mistake and i don't have the original.

The above picture of flowers are of different colours, but only the red image, 1st image of the flower is the original, the other two pictures colour has been change and the set is like a clay pot becoming smaller. The picture was taken after a rainy day and their are drops of rain that can be seen on the stem and inside the petals.
From there I went on to look at some flowers to see how the rain drops has settled on them and how i could capture the reflection of the drop.
I used a micro lens but wanted to use a macro lens which was not possible. I tried my best with the lens i had and the pictures were taken close up on a dull wet day. However I was pleased with results, but believe I could have done better with a macro lens the reflection. However i will try capture the same theme with a macro lens at a latter stage.
My main subject is the raindrops and their reflection.
Photoshop – images contrast and sharpness was used to improve but little sharpness was used so the original picture was kept as possible.

Went on to water fountain.
This 6th picture
was taken in handsworth, of a water fountain on a dull day without using a
flash and on a manual setting lens-18-55mm.
This picture
shows part of the water shooting out from the water fountain and the images have
been captured in seconds using a normal lens 18-55mm. The centre image shows the water falling and
it has captured the refracted colours from the light which makes it look like crystal
from the rain. The 3rd on the
right shows thick rain falling which looks similar to the bones of a human ie
two leg joints and the hip bone, it shows strength. The one on the left 1st image show
straight lines of water shooting upwards.
The reason i
took this image was it shows strength, colour and water can come in made shapes
when it’s in liquid form.
Photoshop – the Hue/Saturation was improved of the
centre image a colour was added to the 3rd image, slight blue. Cropping and re-sizing was carried out in Photoshop to improve the composition of the pictures plus also so the images could be put into a group of 3 set.

The above image was taken at the start when the hot water was added to the washing-up liquid and the first bubbles were formed. It shows great clear rainbow colours of the rainbow and also the reflection of the widows.
Under the main bubble you can see the small bubbles made by the lather and depth of the bubble itself above it. I liked the rainbow colours, the reflections on the bubbles and the reflection it catches of the window.

This 7th image again relates to water, is still working with water but washing up liquid was added to the water and the image was taken close up-with when the bubbles were about to die out at normal lens, 18-55mm.
The
liquid creating pentagon shapes in the water and liquid lather which looked really beautiful and the colours were also beautiful, that was not changed. The
image colour was not changed but contrast was sharpened to improve the images strength

From here i went on to the reflection of an eye ball as the eye ball is shaped like a rain drop and I decided to see what i could come up with.
In the above eye ball you can clearly see two people standing close and chatting plus windows and tables in the college canteen and also the reflections of the eyelashes only on the eyeball which makes the eyeball look really effective . furthermore the reddish repeated half circular patterns like a camouflage makes the eyeball look really beautiful.
Therefore my main subject in this picture is the reflection of the eye ball. Below is the same image of the eye but has been cropped so one can see the eye at different sizes.
This above picture is of a male eye taken in the college canteen in the morning with limited light and no flash was used but the picture was taken close –up with a 18-55 lens.
You can clearly see the eye ball has captured a reflection of the canteen tables, chairs, the widows and the coat on the table etc. Therefore the main subject is the reflection on the eye ball.
The subject had dark eyes.
In Photoshop the contrast and sharpness was altered so the reflection could be seen clearly plus cropping.

In this picture
you can clearly see the 3 widow frames of the house the subject is looking at
and the person that is taking the picture, her hands, the head which is covered
with a black head scarf, the red scarf that was around the neck and the shape of
the camera. When taking the picture the sunlight
was behind the subject, therefore then light was on the house, widows. This male subject has light brown eyes and blond hair.
In Photoshop - the
contrast, was sharpened to improve the picture also cropping to improve the composition.
This picture
is part of a set of the eye ball reflection of a eye and a person can be seen
in the eye ball. This female subject blueish green eyes. Again in Photoshop
- the contrast, colour was improved and sharpened to improve the picture quality.

From the water crystals and eyeball images I went on to car trails and tried to re-create
something strong colourful, powerful, happy and i came up with these above pictures. The middle picture is of car trails of cars on a dark day, after 11pm in December 2013 and the pattern
were created due to movement of the camera up and down. The red colour are the lights are from the rear lights of the car and
the yellow colour is of the front lights of the car. Taken at night around 11pm on a cold night.
The
blue colours are from the light outdoor lights at Canary Wharf in London and several pictures were
taken until i got the correct wave like a sea moving into a tunnel and earth
colour towards the start. The picture at
the right end is of beautiful bright lights also in Canary Wharf in London inside the building.
The
reason I have chosen 3-colours as a set, is blue fresh IE, sea or sky, 2- red romantic and
warm feel on a cold day and 3-green earth, land growth. Therefore the main subject is the colours of the lines, shapes and brightness of them.

This picture was taken in a similar way to the one above it, the movement of the camera was slower, this picture reminds me of the artist's work i saw at the NEC during my research and of other artist painter work but can't remember the name at the moment.
Main subject the colours and the which colour which looks like lighting.
Picture is of a Xmas tree with orange, red and yellow light bulls and which lights.
From the above i have gone on to the fire works which are very similar to the water fountain and trails, the only different was it was very far from me and was pleased with the results. Mostly like the way the way the lights are shooting out.

Main
subject of the picture is the reflection of the face of the clay pot that was taken at Canary Wharf
in London. The pictures were taken indoors inside the building of Canary Wharf which is a big finance business building.
The two side image - cropping was carried out in Photoshop so the reflection was the main focus point therefore improve the composition of the pictures in the group of 3 plus re-sized so the images could be put into a group of 3. Also the colour was changed to my liking because i wanted to finish my work colourful with strong colours. Below are two original pictures of the clay pots where nothing has been changed.
It was fantastic to
see the reflection of the faces later learned a new subject that there were
face very similar know at the East Island.

Lastly below, I did some pictures on orange salt that is used for melting snow.
Evaluation
I started my assignment first by doing some research on
location to gain some ideas and I found rain droplets of water on plants and
their reflection fascinating, breath taking.
I knew I may not succeed in this area as I was not a professional
but wanted to try it out, as I took pictures my confidence increased so did my title. As a result my assignment title’s name went
from raindrops, to abstraction plus reflection.
I am pleased with the outcome and surprised with my work
but, feel I could have done much better with a macro lens plus I have some experience
in this area now so, will do hopefully much better next time.
In this assignment I went from spider web to raindrop on plants
and falling on to objects were the rain droplets had settle on, my assignment
build on from there. Then from this
point I went on to the reflection of the eye ball which led me to car trails
that lead me to experiment towards art work, clay vase face reflection and so
on.
I think this assignment title was a very small one at the
start but towards the end became very big because one thing lead to another
even thought I stayed on the same theme.
Water or rain droplets surround us and so does the reflection it’s
endless.
Next time- I would like to use a macro lens and work on the
rain droplet that have settled on objects and on plants were ice has settle on
them which comes from rain water and see what I can capture. I would also like to do more shots early
morning.
My week
point is- some pictures were not sharp enough as I would have liked
them to be i.e. the raindrops on plants- if there were 3 rain droplets only one
was sharp well in focus and the other two rain drops were close but, were
slightly less sharp, so I need to improve on this point.
